Based on a Harmony Central review from an original owner, I think the EL-980 model number for the neck-through guitar is correct. The cheapest version of that model, which is a mahogany body bolt-on without the semi-circles on the headstock and without the added narrow rosewood stripe in the middle ...

That's an El Degas 680. I have an identical one which I got new in Ottawa in 1981, and that's what it said on the receipt ($213!). I just recently got its bass twin for $150 and the sticker on that said 686 - Made in Japan.I will be posting up the story and pictures soon in the Show and Tell section ...
