El Degas Mandolin

Post by new mando girl »

Hi All,
The focus here seems to be El Degas guitars, but I have recently acquired an El Degas A-Style mandolin. The label inside says it is "Modelo No. KLM 100 Made in Romania". My understanding was that the El Degas instruments were made in Japan. Does anyone know anything about the reference to Romania or anything else about this mandolin (how old it might be, etc.)?
Thanks!

Seems that some of instruments, such as some classical guitars and the mondos like yours, were made in Romania. I cannot say for sure what this implies as far as the timeline of the brand and the year of manufacture, but I personally believe these instruments are from later in the brand's history - probably late 70's or early 80's (possibly coinciding with the shift to Koran manufacture for the electric guitars & basses and acoustics). This is just my opinion.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hi new mando girl, any chance of some pix?
There are a few posts of other instruments here too, banjos ukes, mandos, and of course basses, but we're always up for more! :)
You can do a search for what there is and if you haven't already seen my old post you can see an 'A' style here: http://www.eldegas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=65

I have some photos of the A-style, 2 point A-style, and F-style El Degas mandos... I'll be putting them in the full informational site, when that finally happens.

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the link. My mandolin doesn't look like any of those. Hopefully, I can get a photo posted in the next day or so.
