Hi, new member new guitar

Post by Dale »

Hi,
I just got a 1976 El Degas les paul custom..

its a bolt neck (DOH) thats the only thing i dont like about it.

it has a sticker says made in japan on the neck plate,

really cool hardware that im not sure if its original or not..
anyone got one with "Clover" tuners?? they have a little clover leave logo on them and are hexagon (the tuner itself not the button)

it has the lawsuit headstock, with the cool custom inlay,,

but it has a 3 screw truss rod cover.. which seems to be more like
the made in korea ones?

i will post pics when i can..

cheers,
Dale

Hi again Dale...I left a reply in the other forum and just noticed you were here too.

Don't be too down on bolt-on's. Just because Frankenstein's monster had a bolt on head, that's no reason to dis' the Degas!
What counts is how it plays, and if you're comfy behind the pickups. I have a variety of guitars, some of which are bolt-on's and I love 'em all. It really doesn't matter ultimately, y'know?

Cheers again, you lucky bugger!

Charles... your white les paul

Post by Dale »

hey Charles...

my white les paul looks ALOT like yours...
but mine has a 3 screw truss rod cover...

does yours have "clover" tuners?
bolt neck? with cool neck plate that is not square, but has a dip down
on the bottom?

are yours made in japan like mine?
ever seen one with the made in japan sticker instead of engraved on the neck plate?

what year are your les pauls?

cheers,
Dale

(Moved to Free Range from Buy & Sell)

My white LP Custom is a set neck, MIJ fudging from the logo-style. Non stamped tuners (in fact, non of my axes have stamped tuners). No idea on the date (it's next to impossible to tell on any of these at this point with the info I have, as they have no serial #'ing system on which to date these)

3-screw trussrod cover is standard on ALL bolt-on Gibby-copy El Degas guitars I have ever come across, whether it be MIJ or MIK. Only my set-necks have the 2-screw truss cover.

I have seen a few with a MIJ sticker rather than a stamped neck-plate. Not sure what the rhyme or reasoning is on that, or what it might imply about the date of manufacturing.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)
