I'm new, any info on this guitar?

Post by Surgeon »

Hi, I just found that forum, glad there's some place with Degas info.

I bought that '335 copy about 6 years ago. Great player, sounds really nice too.
I gutted it and redid the whole electronics and put Seymour Duncan '59 pick-ups in there. Very sweet.
Slight twist on the neck but not enough to bother me (I'm not talking about relief or back-bow).

Any info on this one (mfg year? Country?)

Thanks!

Phil

Hi Phil, do you have a closer image of the headstock logo? It looks more like the MIK (korea) style logo, but I cannot be sure.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the reply, I'll find or take a pic tonight and post it.

What's the determinant for the country of manufacture when it comes to the logo?

cheers!

Hi, In the meantime I managed to crop one of an existing pic I had...
I also included a very blurry pic of the paper label on the neck heel.

Hope this can help.

Thanks

That looks like a later MIK model. The more "rounded" logo style (and the rounded top headstock shape rather than the Gibson-style "open-book" shape) is the give-away.

Some of these later MIK models are really awesome, with nice set neck construction like what you have. She's a beauty!

Thanks for the answers Charles.

What suprised me first was the quality of the construction for such an unknown (to me) brand and such a cheap price. Everything was perfect, solid and stable. Still is.

I've thought about selling it a few times but I can't bring myself to do it...

Hi Surgeon, yup she's MIK but looking very nice indeed. Top quality for sure.
The paper label simply indicates that this is a copy of a Gibson ES335 style guitar; the RS probably means Red Sunburst. Usually manufacturers are not that blatantly obvious about using a Gibson model directly. Odd.

Hi Barry,

Those were my assumptions as well.

I too found it odd that their model designation was a direct copy of Gibson's model denomination.

I may have bought her for little money but she sure fits well amongst my other guitars (some Gibson's in the lot too)... quality is quality, no matter what tag you put on it!
