El Degas Ric 330 copy on Craigslist - Toronto area

Post by charles »

Ric 330 copy (not mine) on Craigslist.
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/msg/2827848135.html

I have one of these, I am unsure whether it is MIJ or MIK. I am leaning towards MIK.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Charles, what do you think about the pricing. Assuming it is an MIK with no case, $650 seems quite high. Albeit, it is a rare one.

The scarcity of these models seems to drive the price up, but I would not go so far as $650 unless I really REALLY wanted it. I'd probably do 300-400 though, if it's in good shape.

No one will buy it at that price. maybe the guy is just fishing...but no one will bite. But yeah, I would do $300 for it if it was in decent shape.

People love to try for the big bucks on older instruments hoping someone will pay more for anything that is quote-unquote vintage. Most people know better; but if it did not work, they wouldn't do it. :?

Legitimate Ricky's are notoriously hard to come by (and expensive). Orders for new instruments typically go on back order for about a year! I think that's a deliberately manipulated by Rickenbacker to keep the price high and fuel the Ricky "mystique".

Unfortunately, clone owners start to believe this hype too, and think that their instrument is also worth as much. They may be good copies but they ain't no Rick!

I think with this El Degas here and the 650 pricetag, you get that perfect storm of someone believing the hype and doubling down on the "vintage", "lawsuit" and Ric-mystique. :?
