Help.

Post by kentrocks »

I was thinking of picking this up. He lowered his price to 250. He's not sure but think it's an M model.

What is it? How much is it worth.

Thanks in advance.

It's am MT- model; Martin copy.
I think the sound hole label says where it's made. I can't read it in the photos.

Here's my usual "MT- spiel":

The MT- models are copies of Martin acoustics.

MT- models seem to usually list on the internet anywhere from
$100-500 depending on the condition of the instrument, country of
manufacture, and the level of motivation of the buyer. Many models
sell for $150-250, but some may sell for more (particularly some of
the more 'deluxe' 70's Japanese models with better fit & finish,
which may sell for $200-500).

$250 is a much more realistic price alright. But it isn't a pristine example and I would expect a case or bag to be included for that price.

And having played slide on it isn't necessarily a good thing, it could indicate a high action. Not likely, given the usual quality of workmanship, but it's worth checking nonetheless.

Wood in an acoustic guitar tends to get a better "voice' with use. It's the vibration from strumming that does it. Slide doesn't give the guitar as much of a workout so you could argue that the poor thing's been cheated a bit in that regard.

All in all a nice guitar. If it grabs you, grab it!!

I can't say for sure, but I think that's a MIK model... at which point $250 would be at the high end of the spectrum I'd pay for it, personally.

Thank you all who gave me input.

Although it might be on the high end. I offered him 200 w/o case and 250 w/case.

I realize it might be higher than one should maybe pay but that said my late Uncle had an El Degas in the late 70's early 80's. So it's more of a sentimental thing.

Cheers! :)

I don't think it's overpaying at all, so long as you like the guitar and enjoy it.

Best of luck, please let us know if you get it! And post lots of pictures if you do.
