My 960B is also my go-to guitar. Lovely.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I assume you mean the plastic binding over the fret ends?
Do not be alarmed, these are called nibs and are the mark of a top quality finish. They are found on more expensive guitars because they require considerable hand finishing to achieve that result.

The metal frets are trimmed back from the edge of the fingerboard and that space replaced by the binding. When the binding is installed it is originally the height of the frets. The material between each fret is then scraped and filed away leaving the metal fret ends nicely covered and your fingers protected from scratches!

Yes, the more "deluxe" ED Les Paul copies do indeed have fret binding.

Nice, innit?

Glad to hear she'll be right as rain after a little effort on those pickups. Enjoy!
