Vintage Modified?

I know the headstock says "Squier" but I'm pretty sure that after that, this baby is 99% pure El Degas.

I never thought I would own a frankenstrat. But when I saw this baby at a local pawn shop with a "Rocker" neck (AKA Wal-Mart) I knew she had potential.

Sure, someone has installed a custom pick guard and tossed one of the 3 Dimarzio super distortions, but there's no chips. And the "Made in Japan" neck plate is there as well as the round access plate on the back that would give you access to the 3/5 way switch when this axe had one.

I also just conveniently had a cheap-o Korean squier strat lying around so instead of investing in a warmoth neck, I just used what I had. I love the flatter radius anyway.

The weight is just about the same as my MIK El Degas plywood Les Paul. Although admittedly, that one is the heaviest Les Paul I have ever seen.

And yeah, I do have a thing for acrylic. But I never dared to dream that an acrylic El Degas Strat would find its way in to my home; even a vintage modified one.

Matches those bar-stools perfectly

It might be a modified El Degas body; however some of the other labels around that era dabbled in acrylic Strat copies, so it's anyone's guess.
