Anyone Know The Segnificance Of Colours?

Post by telekafunkle »

Hi! The El Degas that I am looking at is purple: it has "volume and tone indicators" (post in this thread if you don't know what they are...Suprisingly, not to many peolpe do), and I THINK gold hardware? Maybe silver? Can't remember, I will be visiting tomorrow, and POSSIBLY (but unlikely), buying/trading a guitar for it (there will probably have to be some more $ payment, and I am not sure if I want to do it yet) buying it, so pictures to come...Maybe...(Might be sold aswell)...

Anyone have ANY pictures of something like the one I"m looking at/want? I have only seen: White, Black, Transparent, etc, etc.

Thanks!

what is it a copy of? If you check Charles' collection in the Showcase section he may have something similar. It's the closest to an El Degas museum I've seen.

Oh right, sorry, it is a Les Paul copy.

And thanks, I will be sure to do that!

Perhaps it was refinished at some point in its lifetime? I haven't seen one in that color before (expect an ED acoustic that looked to be styled after a Taylor).

Is it a bolt on or a set-neck? Any photos? (I'm a photo-fiend  )

I love volume/tone indicators, but you rarely find them on guitars anymore. And I can't really be bollocks'ed into putting them on the ones that haven't got them  I think it looks great to have them on a "vintage-styled" instrument :)
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Yeah, I am thinking it might have been re-finished, but actually VERY well re-finished at that...It looks almost like factory, ecpecially how the binding is not and not affected...I jave just seen every other colour BUT this one,.

It is a Bolt-On, actually it says "Made In Japan", so the segnificance is still there. No photos...YET! I am in the process of getting it...I think I am going to go for it, I just LOVED it. Honestly, the neck feels better than some Gibsons,. I am starting to like the El Degas prand.

Yeah, the Volume and Tone Indicators is a cool thing...I have a Vintage V100 Lemon Drop (Reliced), and I am looking into getting indicators for it and ONLY it. The problem is, the internet actually only has a few sites: They are like $1.00, but most sites, (I havn't checked in a LONG while), are U.K., which is fine, they just don't ship here, so I am getting my local guitar store to get them (correcion: I did: 3 months+ ago...They still havn't came yet).

Yeah, well, I have not seen an El Degas with these on them (atleast the pictures weren't clear/close enough to show? And the one thing that I KNOW what changed, was, if you look at the volume and tone knobs themselves, they are not like on other El Degas...The "Epiphone Les Paul Special" (the VERY beginner one...Usually find them for $100...Ironically, they say special, but in reality, its for beginner players to feel digified), has these volume and tone knobs that are just high and round...Thats is, not like normal Les Paul volume and tone knobs...Someone did, I think, switch these.

Thanks, pictures HOPEFULLY (soon, but if I have to pay money, then not...I have to pay debt still to guitar stores...I am still on a downpayment).

Thank!

I normally order parts like knobs, vol/tone indicators, etc online from GFS (Guitarfetish), AllParts, or Guitar Parts Resource. I find that buying these parts in my local shops costs me a lot more, even though I am paying shipping with the online companies. I just wait until I have a decent enough wish list to make the order worthwhile.

Can't wait to see pics of your new guitar. I no longer buy the bolt-on versions because I have enough guitars already  but one of my bolt-ons I have been considering selling is probably the best-feeling LP copy I own, and has awesome pickups.

All I can say is... stay tuned to the forum's Buy & Sell section... but don't hold your breath!

I'm also wanting to pull the pickups into another of my guitars, so I don't know how much of the "spark" that I love about the guitar might run away with the pickups

Yeah, I would think so. Purple was not a common colour 'back in the day', at least not for 70's vintage. You did start to see more it in the mid to late 80's though.

Beautiful! I've been looking seriously at buying one for a long time now. My son's music teacher is the Vintage distributor for this area, and I bought a TC200BD (Tele) in blond finish about a year and half ago. It's a great player! But I'm still lusting after the Lemon Drop which is a tad pricey for me right now.
The first time I picked it up it felt like my Gibson's neck; I was right at home. Very comfortable. How do you like it?
