I haven't been around in a while, last time i was here I was asking questions about the neck on my strat copy and my plans to rebuild that guitar. quick update and then i'll get on to my question. basically i've got the body of the guitar stripped and ready for a finish...just gotta decide on what finish to go with. the neck was beyond repairing (at my skill level... i dont have the money to pay someone to do the work) so i'm looking for a neck. basically, the project hasnt come along all that much.

on to the reason for my post.

what kind of strings are most of you guys using on your guitars. i have an epiphone tony iommi sg that currently has a set of ernie ball hybrid slinkys on it and i find them way too light for me. they were recommended at a local store because im pretty new really and they're light. anyone have something they can recommend, both gauge and brand.

I use Ernie Ball Nickel Wound Extra Light Custom Gauge, .010 - .050, (# 2210) - they are a 10-50 set with a wound G string.

I order them 10-20 sets at a time from www.juststrings.com - they sometimes go on sale for about $3.50 a set

You also usually cannot go wrong with the D'Addario 10-packs of standard 9's or 10's...

i ended up going with a set of ernie ball "skinny top heavy bottom"
a little bit heavier than i thought they'd be, but it hasnt turned out to be too bad so far.

Hey Rydawg. You can't go too wrong with the skinny top/heavy bottoms, especially if you're a heavy rhythm player. I have a set on a couple of my guitars, including the Epiphone Les Paul and they're great. Mostly though I use D'Addario nickel wound 9's, except for my Tele clone and a Strat style clone on which I'm using Pure Nickel strings. They give a really warm vintage sound. Nice change.
