Everly Brothers copy
Everly Brothers copy
I am currently shopping for a new acoustic. After doing some research and playing every guitar in town, I have decided that I want an Epiphone EJ-200. I found one for $399 slightly used with a hard shell. The other day I came across this El Degas Everly Brothers copy with case for the same price. I've been doing dome internet research on the brand, but can find nothing for this particular model. The guy who runs the store says it was made in the early '70's and it is in mint condition. I would like some info. Does any one know if the top is solid? Is this a good deal? Everyone seems to rave about these guitars. I would appreciate any info that anyone might have. It played as well as the Epiphone, so I'm not sure which way to go.

I'd definitely play both as much as I could and let my ears do the deciding.amcneece wrote:I am currently shopping for a new acoustic. Whether or not $399 is a good price depends on the sound and condition of the guitar. If it needs work or is flat sounding it's not a good price. But if it's well maintained and plays well with a nice sound, then it's up to you and your wallet!
The top of the El Degas may or may not be solid, I'd have to see it. Likely the guitar shop owner could help you on that as well as he can inspect it closely in person.
Do you have any photos of the El Degas?
As far as people raving about their El Degas guitars, that's a mixed bag - sometimes it's the fact that the best of the brand tend to survive the 30-odd years between when they were made and now! There are some great ones out there and also some real dogs, same as any brand.
Best of luck to you! Hope I've been of some help.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.
