my little acoustic degas

Post by keo222 »

i have a small parlor style degas that my aunt and uncle gave me 8 years ago. it had been in their attic in indiana in the states for 15 years. they don't remember where it came from but they used to live in ontario and were draft dodgers/hippies and have probably had it for a long time. it has a model number sticker inside and a "made in japan" sticker on the head stock.

soon after acquiring it, i took it to a guitar shop that specializes in acoustics and had it set up nicely. they mentioned it was probably worth more as "parts" than a whole. it has brazilian rose wood sides and back and neck/headstock. not sure what the top is made of. it is in very good condition despite its early years of neglect. no cracks or dings. i've babied it.

it's not been played much due to the action which is very high and i find it quite difficult to play. more experienced players don't seem to mind but i'm ready to sell it. i have no interest in selling it for parts. i have a fondness for this guitar but need different/new gear and it would be better off in someone's hands who will play it! the tone is bright and surprisingly loud for it's small body.

pure acoustic - no pickups or anything. i have pics but can't figure out how to post. please help. i'd love to hear any feedback about the value/history...from my research it seems history on these things is fairly mysterious.

thanks much!

You can post photos if you use a free online photo hosting site such as Photobucket.com - when you upload your photos it will give you the necessary coding to cut and paste in so the images show up.

Hard to say what the parlour guitar will go for. The ones I've seen for sale in the past have all been, if I recall correctly, in the $50 - 175 region. You can ask whatever you'd like for it, but the market will likely not bear very much for it (the brand name is quite unknown and the economy is in the toilet). But who knows - someone might be in the market for an older MIJ parlour guitar and be willing to pay more... you just never know on these things.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)
