I like it! Nice headstock.

Unfortunately I don't have any info on the types of wood used in the C- models, but the top looks like spruce to me. I would imagine your local luthier could make an educated guess after taking a close look at the grain pattern.

Hello Bigddv, welcome to the ED forums.
Yes, very nice guitar; good quality build and top grade materials as was typical of el Degas instruments from this era. And I'm guessing it has a wonderful "voice" too!

As Charles has indicated, the top is most likely tight grained spruce, but since we can't see the back and sides I can only speculate that they are a mahogany variety, again of top quality and probably of South American origin, which is no longer available to instrument makers.

Unfortunately very little information is available about el Degas except that it was a "white label" marketed mostly in Canada in the 70's and early 80's. Instruments were made first in Japan, then in Korea, and later on in places like Indonesia and Romania with decreasing quality with each location change. No catalogues or flyers exist that we know of.

I know of one catalog, but it does not include any acoustic or classical models. Not much is known about the classical models, but there isn't a whole lot TO know, there seem to be about a handful of different models that were produced throughout the El Degas timeline, from different countries and manufacturers.

The sound hole label will likely give most of the info we'd need to make an educated guess on the country of manufacture (it might actually be printed right on the label  ).
