Found an ad on CL in Atlanta for a bass. Seller said it was a "Desta" (not good reading skills). Couldn't pin it down until I bought it (paid $80 for a package including the bass, a Strat clone, a Traynor amp and a bunch of miscellaneous guitar stuff). I've posted a couple of photos below. Bass has one set of PBass style split pickups and one single pickup. Two controls with a toggle switch between. Guitar seems to work except that jack is shorting. Haven't even cleaned it yet so will check wiring later. No noticeable wear, just dirty. Came with a fiberboard fitted case with broken hinges, also an easy fix I think. Would appreciate an ID on this one if possible, but did want to add it to the knowledge base.
That's a later 1980's era MIK P/J bass copy, using both the split Precision and wide Jazz pickups. You should be able to get a good variety of tones out of that bass.
That's a great package deal you got there. The Traynor alone is probably worth the price.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.
El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42 (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)
Thanks, Charles. I'm pleased that you have this site. There's no knowledge out there to speak of regarding this brand.
At age 64, I've just gotten interested in guitars and basses in the last year or so. I'll confess to making up for lack of talent by learning much technology and history, so discovering a new brand and learning a bit about it is very satisfying. I learn by buying guitars that need some love and then reselling when I'm ready for something else. It's taught me a lot about maintenance and repair. The downside is discovering something like this and determining that it needs to be a keeper.
Fascinating array of instruments by these guys, and from the looks of this bass, decent quality.
