Re: eldegas mt-3
Hi there, thanks for sharing - yours would have been made either very late 70s or perhaps the early 80s.
MT- models are copies of Martin acoustics.

I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

The "factory burnt down" story likely refers to the story of fire/earthquake closing the Matsumoku factory in Japan - a story itself that is often touted to be an urban myth.

I'm not disputing the 1970's timeframe - you are most likely correct there.

Matsumoku may have created some of the el Degas solid body models but not likely the acoustics (although they did market some under the Westone label). Matsumoku was owned by The Singer Co. (yes, the sewing machine folks). It simply went bankrupt through foreign mis-management in early 1987. No fire. No earthquake.
Head over to http://www.westoneguitars.net and read the History section for more information. Westone was Matsumoku's "house brand". Also check the Acoustics pictures in the Guitars section.
