El Dégas MT10 - Made in Korea
El Dégas MT10 - Made in Korea
Well, I got this beautiful little guitar as my girlfriend's first acoustic yesterday! I picked it up for a steal off of the local (New Brunswick) kijiji. There's a reason I got it for a steal though. A local luthier had gotten it in a trade (for next to nothing) as the neck was broken at both the nut and the heel! So, he proceeded to fix it up, and he sold it to me for the cost of repairs!
Now, I'm new to this forum, but I've been a member over at Talkbass for awhile, so I know the rules - No pictures, no guitar. So without boring you further, here's my (her) new baby!

An El Degas back from the dead! Congrats!

I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

Charles, you seem to be quite knowledgeable about these guitars, would you happen to know what kinds of wood this was made from?
ANY information you would have about it would be great!
Thanks

Most likely:
Top - Spruce
Neck - Mahogany
Sides - Mahogany or Rosewood (can't quite see the grain enough to tell)
Back - Maple centre portion; Mahogany or Rosewood (can't quite see the grain enough to tell) outer portions

I'm guessing it's likely a good quality mahogany since it's MIK.
Still a really nice build!

Good point Barry - it's likely not Rosewood once the move went to Korean manufacturing.

Not sure if it will help, but I took a closeup of the grain. Maybe you would be able to tell now?

Small world! Yes, I do think she's great. To be honest, it actually plays more like my friend's old Guild acoustic than it does any Martin I've ever played...but, nice none the less!marmar0130 wrote:Man....i call the guy for this guitar but i call too late ....you pick it up first...and now i came on this sit and i see your guitar that i want to buy hahahaha funy...you pick up a good martin copy ! el degas made some good guitars
Also, the serial number on this is 910 187. Any rough idea on how old it would be??
Thanks!
Re: El Dégas MT10 - Made in Korea
There is no surviving info on serial numbers.
The common assumption is that the Korean models are from somewhere in the 80s.
