She (was) a beauty. Why do people do stuff like this.
That looks to me to be very similar to yours Charles?
I dunno if it's now worth $200 with all its teeth extracted though!

yes i agree with you barry why do people do things like this to something that dosen't deserve it

It looks quite close to charles kinda just a shame that it was alterd and im pretty sure the add said it was a set neck so i dont even know if it could be replaced.I hate when instruments go unapreciated and you know what they say money cant buy talent...........or can it?

I saw that a few days back and gasped a bit when I saw the lousy fretless conversion.
It's exactly like the one I have and let me tell you, if it was anything like mine that was a hell of an instrument before the frets got pulled.
Although... I'm not ashamed to admit that I did a fretless conversion to my red Precision. But I did a (blowing my own horn here

) pretty damn nice job of it. Bloodwood veneer inlaid into the fret slots and a nice poly finish.

If I did not have the same model I would buy that for $200 and pay for a professional refret.
Well, maybe talk it down to $150....

I don't play bass but that's
swe-e-e-e-t Charles!
I wondered also about a re-fret job. Pricey?
Also isn't the fretboard compromised/wrecked by covering it with polyurethane? I assume it's still playable, but what about the rosewood? Gotta look like crap. No?

The rosewood would have to be sanded a bit to get past the poly, then the fret slots re-cut can frets installed. I'm no luthier, so perhaps it cannot even be done, but I'm sure there are skilled luthiers who could bring back the former glory of the Alembic-ish bass in the OP. Cost... that's probably another story.

I'd bet it would be somewhere between $150-300 but I'm only guessing.
