Re: GB81

GB- models are copies of Gibson acoustics.
I'm not totally certain, but I think the GB-81 is a copy of the "Southern Jumbo"... maybe? I only have a couple of photos of that model.

Glad it worked out - the MIKs get a bad rap but there are some good-uns out there.

Re: El-Degas strat copy I am interested in buying

It's impossible to vouch for the quality of any of these guitars, really - even the later-model MIK's are 30 years old. Definitely try to get your hands on it and try it out in-person. The MIK strat models are likely plywood as you have pointed out, but it could still be a great player. Best of luck!

Re: MT4N Info?

I also have this guitar. It's missing the ferrules in the head stock and the saddle on the bridge. Anybody know what I should be looking for in terms of replacements? I've been out of the game for a long while and looking to get this guitar back to acceptable playing standards. any help would be gr...

Some lucky player will be very happy with that guitar and it is great that you and the previous owner have done this.

Hopefully you've now created enough positive karma to send another dream 'bird your way soon.

Re: MT15R 12-String Acoustic Guitar

The MT prefix does denote this model as a Martin copy. I figure you are right that the R likely does stand for Rosewood. The back & sides of the body may be rosewood, or perhaps they had/planned different models in regards to the wood on the fingerboard. You can safely replace any or all of the pins...

Good on you and the seller for donating the guitar and your time on the fixes to a player in need. It's a nice outcome. :D

Wow  now THAT is what I call a war wound.

Sorry to hear it's not worked out. The search for the perfect Hummingbird continues. Oh well - it's always good to have one guitar you have to keep searching for (I've been waiting for the right Strat for about a decade  )

Re: My El-Degas Black Beauty Custom (3 humbuckers)

It does seem like most of the MIJ (Made in Japan) models tended to use the same body wood types as the guitars they were emulating, so that should make this guitar have mahogany in both the body and neck (there's no maple cap on a Les Paul Black Beauty like you would find on a Les Paul Standard). If...

Re: My El-Degas Black Beauty Custom (3 humbuckers)

You do not often find a serial number on the electric models, but regardless the serial numbering system used on El Degas guitars has long been lost to time so they do not give us any info on the guitars anyway! Nice looking guitar! I've never owned one of the 3-humbucker Les Pauls... I figure I hav...
