Re: El Degas GB-26
These guitars are "white label" instruments so they would have been badged at the manufacturer. I don't know what to say about your report of there appearing to be an Ibanez inlay under the lacquer. These instruments would have been made to order so I don't get why they would have rebadged...

Re: El Degas GB-26
I only have 1 (low quality) photo of a GB-26 in my archive so I do not have much to go on, but the shape and pickguard suggest it's likely a copy of a Gibson Hummingbird Studio (which is a dreadnought shape with the "spiky" pickguard of a Hummingbird, but without the pickguard graphics).

Re: MT4STR Eldegas guitar
Curious what the STR stands for. Thanks Rob. Letters after the standard model number generally refer to the finish (they seemed to start doing this with later models). If I saw a photo of the OP's guitar it would probably become very apparent what color the letters are meant to represent. Of course,...

Re: A new to me GL 36
There is no info on the serial number system so it does not help in trying to make an educated guess on the era of manufacture. Photos are the best help as there are telltale signs I can use to try to provide some info. If you upload your photos to a photo sharing site you can then get IMG links you...

Re: What is the year of my F 180 12 string
Unfortunately it is impossible to provide a definitive answer since there is no surviving info on the serial numbering system. It is believed the F- models are among the early acoustics for the brand so it may be late 60's or very early 70s, but this is only an "educated guess".

Re: El Degas GL 36
Barry's likely right on the money on the woods. Most of the MIJ MT- and GL- models seem to have that wood combo.

Re: Vintage El Degas
The serial number system seems to have never really been used and no info has survived the era, so any info that can be offered is "best guess". From the tiny bit of info that is around, I've generally been guessing most models from ED to have been from the early to mid 1970s and a 60s era...

Upload your photos to imgur.com or photobucket.com (or another image sharing site) Post IMG tags to your post (I can likely edit your post to fix the links if you have trouble with them, as long as you post the image URLs) Your guitar ought to use similar woods - likely a spruce top and rosewood sid...

Re: Looking for more info on my El Degas electric guitar
I have almost the same guitar and it has a Serial number on the plate. It is 52. Does this mean anything? I am also interested in the value. Unfortunately no serial number information gives us any info - the system was either not used widely or the information has been lost to time (or both). The b...

In my experience, you'll be amazed at how much better the sound and tone will be after ditching the adjustable bridge. They are serious tone-sucks.

Re: El Degas GB81
On my copy of a Gibby Super Jumbo: 129015 On my copy of a Martin dreadnaught: 829094 then 18 under that The only commonality between my two is the "290" but that may be just coincidence. I have never seen a consistent serial numbering or marking system that seems to mean anything to anyone...

Both of my ED acoustics have stamps, but neither resemble a date. See my reply above for more.

Re: El Degas GB81
I haven't heard of stamps like that on the neck block but it's getting me to grab a mirror and head down into the music studio for a look right now! (edit: both of my acoustic ED's have stamps on the neck block but neither have any resemblance to a date, unless one of them was manufactured during th...

Re: 1971(?) el degas
I suspect the truss rod cover here has been replaced. Mine have the open-book headstock. I have only seen LP Juniors like mine so I think this should be pretty much the exact same as mine in contruction and specs except for all the nice refinish work put into it (and the bridge pickup replaced with ...
