Barry wrote: Thu Aug 18, 2022 6:48 pm Very nice. I've seen a lot of the matching guitars but I think this is the first bass version I've seen.
With that "lovely" Gumby head stock i presume this was based on a Greco design?
Yup, the prevailing theory is that it's a Greco design

Re: Minty Gold Top LP

Hmmm... humbucker sized P90s are out there... I am a fan of the GFS Mean 90s and Dream 90s and they are cheap as chips!

Re: Grabber Bass

You nailed it - there is absolutely a sweet spot! Once you find it, the sliding pickup feature seems pretty redundant :D

Re: My new 985 El Degas bass

The grass is always greener, as they say! I coveted the neck-thru as well and was set up with a sweet deal from a forum member (lovely fellow from Ontario), but ended up still having the biggest spark with my set neck version. C'est la vie

Re: Minty Gold Top LP

Oooh, I love goldtops  I have always been sad that they never did the gold top in a set neck (as far as I have found, anyway) and I have so many of the set necks that I cannot justify another LP! THANK YOU for all the photo posts. I guess I should really get my butt in gear and do a full run ...

Re: My new 985 El Degas bass

I have both the set neck and neck-thru versions of this one. I actually prefer the sound of my set neck version! The neck-thru lives in my home office, though, so it gets more play (since it's there for quick pick-up-and-play when the feeling arises to do so).

Re: El Degas L6 guitar

Beauty.
Mine appears a bit more light/blonde than yours, I love the ambering yours has!

The previous owner of mine changed the varitone to a switch and I've been meaning to get it put back to its original form.

Lovely. Mine has a headstock repair, sadly.

Is yours also as heavy as a boat anchor?

Re: Grabber Bass

Nice. I have that same model. The sliding pickup was an interesting idea, though I tend to have it where I like it and not move it. Definitely one of the Gibson black sheep models to replicate!

Re: Acoustic El Degas made in Japan

Would anyone have an idea of worth on this guitar? I think I had paid about $100.00 cdn in 1976. That is a question that becomes harder and harder to answer as time marches on. The instruments are now getting into the 40-50 year old so the question of condition and wear becomes more and more of a v...

Re: El Degas GL guitars

I think I may have discovered the difference in the GL30 and the GL36N, hence the difference in price. It appears that the GL36N is made of the same materials as the Guild D55. Rosewood, spruce, etc. whereas the GL30 has laminate back and sides? Does anyone have any other thoughts on this? That sou...

Re: Rickenbaker 330 clone

Looks like a beauty. I've been fortunate to have owned 2 different El Degas Ric 330 clones... one's in my music room right now. Luckily I also was able to get them for pretty decent prices. My first one was a real fixer upper so I was very happy to replace it with a more pristine specimen. Th...

Re: El Degas GL guitars

The GL30 & GL36 both appear, from the photos I have seen, to be the same aesthetically. The difference could be build quality as you have theorized, though I have not had my hands on them to confirm whether this is the truth. Both have the telltale signs of being among the more "deluxe"...

Re: 1973 ElDegas Modelo 303

I'd guess that yours may be from before they moved to the more standard (and easily understandable) model nomenclature of MT-/GL-/GB-? I'm interested to see the photos, let me know if you need help when you go to post them (you need to host them on a site like Imgur, Flickr, etc and post IMG tags in...

Re: Acoustic El Degas made in Japan

I had to monkey around a bit but managed to get the img tags working. Thanks for the photos! With the MT series we've seen some of them as sort-of 1:1 copies of a specific Martin acoustics of the era; and some that are more "general" copies of the aesthetics and features of the Martin acou...
