Re: Acoustic El Degas made in Japan
Yes, you first need to host your photos at an image hosting site such as Imgur or Flicker then post IMG tags in your post. (there is a handy img tag button in the post editor to help with this when you are making a post)

Re: Acoustic El Degas made in Japan
MT models are copies of Martin acoustics.
I don't have any images of an MT14 in my archives so I'm not sure which model it replicates.

Re: Model Number & replacement Machines
F185 is likely the correct model number. The F models seem to be early copies before the more recognizable model number nomenclature (GL, MT, GB, etc.) started being used. It's probably a copy of a Martin acoustic, but if you can post some photos (see below for info) that will help greatly in identi...

Re: Possible Serial Number Interpretation
Charles also saw your Jan 30 2022 post on model numbers. Is there ever going to be a solution to the El Degas serial number mystery? All signs point to "no". No info from the original manufacturer(s) and importer exists; and anecdotally from what we've seen in the instruments, even the ma...

Re: El Degas F302
Stingers are more commonly seen as camouflage for a head stock repair hence my original comment. This was my original thinking as well, but now we have seen enough anecdotal mentions to say that this F302 model likely had this "stinger" as a stock feature (even though it seems a bit odd t...

Re: El Degas F302
I have the exact guitar. It also has black head stock. It was purchased brand new. Black on the back of the headstock like the examples in this thread? Perhaps this model emulates a specific era of Hummingbird that I'm not aware of that did that aesthetic treatment with that black painted back of t...

Re: Extra selector switch above standard 3-way pickup selector (?)
Huh! Interesting. I'm interested to see what it is. I would hazard a guess that a phase switch is most likely but who knows!

Re: GL31 1974
Hi, just bought a acoustic model gl-30 with no serial number. But according to the photo on this forum it is a GL-31. I paid 100 with a super case. Guitar sound great. Is somebody knows about wrong label for this model? Thanks It's most likely that there is just a very minor difference between the ...

Re: Extra selector switch above standard 3-way pickup selector (?)
As for hardware, watch out for sizing. A lot of Fender USA parts may not fit without modification due to these instruments coming out of Japan and using parts utilizing the metric system. Your mileage may vary! Definitely keep us posted and share photos if you can, it's very helpful! (Host images on...

Re: Extra selector switch above standard 3-way pickup selector (?)
Neither of my ED Tele thinlines have any extra switches. If this is the H/H version (dual humbuckers) I wonder if someone added a coil tap or phase switch? Coil taps were pretty popular in that era to get a single coil sound out of humbuckers. I seem to remember, way in the back of my brain, of once...

Re: ElDegas serial number
Do not let my apathy towards ED serial numbers keep you from continuing to research! You could be the one to "crack the code", in tandem with Barry's already excellent info and theory. I don't know much about Japanese tuners other than I like Gotohs for the most part  On my ED aco...

Not sure if I ever really documented what I did to the bass here on the forum. If you are really curious I can take some photos and make a thread

Re: ElDegas serial number
Model numbers On your instrument, GL- means it's a copy of a Guild (as you already know). The XX-00Y model numbering is pretty standard across the line (with the 'Y' variable only being used on some models where there are different finishes). XX-00Y XX = What manufacturer being copied 00 = Internal...

Re: My Unknown Candy Red Fancy Spec El Degas Strat (981MP)
I've always wondered whether the model number sticker was something the factory added on their own, the importer (B&J Music of NYC) added for their own purposes, or maybe even a major music retailer added to them so they'd be able to better do inventory control... who knows. I'd guess B&J wo...

Re: My Unknown Candy Red Fancy Spec El Degas Strat (981MP)
Great price on that one. The 918MB (looks like some water attacked the B and turned it almost into a P) sticker is the model number. You don't see those stickers surviving on a ton of these ED's (I assume most new owners scratched it off as soon as they brought the guitar home) but I've seen them ar...
