For Sale: LP Copy?

Post by wolf »

Bought it in 2003. Not sure what model it is exactly. I was told it has DiMarzio Pickups. Looks Mahogany body, Beautifully set neck, super low action, coil splitters? Grover machine heads (i'll include the originals-I don't know why they were changed) It has a few battle scars as you can see in the pics( I've done my best to include all the battle scars in the pics on photobucket) The neck is straight with no wharps, all the electronics work fine. The clean sound is amazing through a bass amp - very crisp and clear. Comes with original machine heads and ugly brown case that I got it in. Make me an offer. If you know the model, please post :D If for some reason you're not able to view the photobucket pics, Go ahead and email me @ b1gbadwolf@msn.com . I'll get some pics to you asap.

That's a "The Paul" copy.
Copied one of the Norlin models of the 70's. Not a very popular model among Gibson collectors, unfortunately (the Norlin one).

I own one of this El Degas model but it has a repaired headstock break :x
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hi wolf.

I would say "yes" to all three.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record lately, the overall fit and finish quality would suggest that this is a product of the Matsumoku plant in Japan. There are certain elements of this guitar which support that hunch; those solid brass knurled knobs and brass nut in particular. These were prominent features on several Mats' production lines including Aria Pro II, Westone, and Vantage in the late 70's and early 80's.

Mini-toggle switches for coil tapping, phase reversal, and active electronic switching were also a regular feature of the Mats designs of the day, something that was seen as radical ideas at the time. If you search these forums you'll find coil splitting functions on other LP copies. This worked pretty well on "Strat" style models but didn't make too much sense to LP players so it appears that it was dropped rather quickly.

This is a really nice looking guitar wolf, and from what you say, it sounds as good as it looks. I wish I had some GAS money...

Yes, this model came stock with Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups with coil tap and phase switch mini toggles. A good guitar to put in front of a screaming Marshall with no pedals - just pure 70's classic rock tone.

Cool. A "The Paul" eh. Nice to finally know the model. Btw, yes, it does sound pretty wicked in a marshall. One thing to note as well - The nut needs some glue. As I was shining it, it popped off. Nothing a little glue couldn't handle though. As for price, I'll let it go for under $300. I don't believe in paying an arm or a leg for something you really want. If you're wondering why I'm selling, It's because I really have a passion for old Hofners. A Galaxie in particular. It happened to be my first guitar ever. ( a 1963 or '64 175) However it got stolrn from my appartment back in '94.

You're killin' me wolf! I just bought a $300 guitar a week ago with my last GAS money! The tank is well and truly empty.

I have sent you a PM, wolf.

I hope it is still for sale. My son won't even lend me back my LP copy I gave him seven years ago. He doesn't even play it. I guess he feels I won't give it back. Smart kid. Anyway, I really miss my El Degas and I'd love to get my hands on another one.

Darn it. I never did hear back from wolf.
Oh well.

If I had bought it I would have sold my other one with the headstock repair to you, motive. It's totally solid, but but I was going the vain route and hoping to get a "pretty" one

No, it is not sold yet. I had 3 hits , but all 3 fell through. I'd still like to sell it asap. I just found the Hofner I was looking for. First come, first serve. ;)

Still for sale. Btw, I'm willing to mark 'gift' on it if I have to ship it out of Canada. I know how it is when you get hit with customs fees :( I'm quite happy with my Hofners btw. :D
