my grand father had recently passed and he had a few guitars, I was told I could have one and the one that caught my eye was the el degas gb23. I've searched for information on it but failed, all I would like to know is if it is a quality guitar and its playability and such.
he also had a yamaha fg-420(heard mixed reviews for it)that I was comparing it to, would be great if someone could tell me which was a better guitar and the reasons for it.
p.s. I'm a novice guitar player looking for a good quality and sounding guitar

gb 23?
Re: gb 23?
If the fit and finish are good on it, and it plays well, then it is a quality guitar with good playabilty!cbuz wrote:all I would like to know is if it is a quality guitar and its playability and such
Same as any other brand, there are gems and there are lemons. I assume if your grandfather has had the El Degas all of these years (it's probably about 30 yrs old) then it is probably a good'un, but I'd have to see and play it to know for sure. As far as the value, El Degas guitars are not very high in value as they were a 'replica' brand copying other guitar designs in the 70's and 80's.
Hoe this helps. If you decide to get that one please come back to visit us and show us some photos. I don't have any pics of a GB-23 yet for the model information I'll be putting together for the main site.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.
El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42 (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Re: gb 23?
yea I figured it was a replica company, because it looks exactly like a Gibson Hummingbird (the finish and the pickguard). And seeing as its not a Gibson it would have to be a replica . But it is pretty much mint condition, and I have decided to take it so when i get it home I will post some pictures.

Hi cbuz, and welcome.
I own a model GB25 which is an accurately made Japanese 'Dove' clone. I'd really love to see yours.
For the longest time mine was the only one up on the site and I was beginning to feel lonely! Lately a few more folks have dropped by to share their 'birds' and it's really nice to see that many have survived the years.
