Re: GL31 1974
Back to visit the site and wow it has grown somewhat, Good work Charles. I so enjoy the models that are shown here . I am always having an eye out for the El Degas brand and come across a few. My GL 31 was purchased brand new for $150 bucks back in Labrador City from the local music store by a girl who figured she wanted to learn how to play. I tried the guitar and loved it, I offered her 100 bucks cash after she had it for only 3 months. She said no way. I said OK then, because the price goes down now. A few months went by and she was not the virtuoso she thought she was and needed some fast cash. I said no not interested, she asked me again and I said $50. bucks. Needless to say I did not end up on her Christmas Card list or a good endeared friend. I did get this GL31 for the 50 and still have it today. All that come across it and play it ask me if i want to sell it. I am a bass player and have been playing since I was 15 years old. I wish I had my blond Les Paul copy" KAY" guitar. With the pick up change to humbuckers it was a great feel and sound. I often wonder where it may be right now.

Yeah, some of these GL-'s are really something. I keep wondering if I'll come across a real sweet one someday and add it to the stable. I've been really enjoying my acoustics lately - a lot easier to play when your electrics and amps are stored away during renovations.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

I've never been lucky enough to even see a GL model up close and personal but they do appear to be terrific models. This one's all mahogany by the look of it?
And Charles, that reno of yours is taking on Biblical proportions. Seems like forever that you've been at it.

Yeah, started in February and had great progress, now the drywall is all up and has been waiting for me to do the finishing for a few months now. I have had a house guest for the last 2 months, had to tear down my rotting deck in July, and just got back from a Paris vacation. Summer was not a great time to be trying to do an interior reno!Barry wrote:And Charles, that reno of yours is taking on Biblical proportions. Seems like forever that you've been at it.
My wife has invited a bunch of her family out for Thanksgiving so the pressure is really on to get the house in ordr - I figured I could handle it or at least get a good workaround going even if I can't get everything done in time.

Re: GL31 1974
Charles, Good luck on the reno's. The thing is not to sweat it to much. A bit at a time and to pace yourself. Yes I have been there and still at it redoing a old yellow brick house built in nineteen four. We are almost there. Then going in spurts. The houses in my area are 1890 to 1910 vintage. The "hood" use to be rundown at one point but many people now are buying these vintage homes and refinishing them. The old floors were yellow pine, to bad a shape to refinish. Now there is 3/4 x 3 inch oak at random lengths up to 16 feet long and laid and sanded and finished by hand to the gunstock colour. Lots of works and nice to have wood mills in the area to replicate the baseboard and and window mouldings. The finished product is always stunning.
Yes the GL 31 is a fine guitar, I was playing it the other week and always sounds sweet. Yes it is a all mahogany guitar with a good finish and still has that wonderful touch and sound the improves with age. I travel to pawn shops and second hand store and yes I can not pass a music store with out taking a peak. I have not seen another GL 32. If I do I will scoop that up for sure.
Always nice to visit here, I will have to get back more often.
Take care all

I've done a ton of renos over the last several years - we redid our condo from top to bottom and now have sold that and are in a house (about 18 months ago) - I definitely take my time on things and try not to sweat it! I took things seriously back in the day when I was learning and now I just do the work when I have the time - it helps that this reno is for my music room so there's less pressure since it is not impacting the living space as much (though my wife will be happy to get the second spare room back!).
Glad you're back, Ron - do come back once in a while and say hi!

Re: GL31 1974
Hi, just bought a acoustic model gl-30 with no serial number. But according to the photo on this forum it is a GL-31. I paid 100 with a super case. Guitar sound great. Is somebody knows about wrong label for this model? Thanks
Re: GL31 1974
It's most likely that there is just a very minor difference between the GL-30 and GL-31 models. There is an extremely low chance it would be a mis-labeled model. The difference might even just be something nearly imperceptible such as the grade of wood, the hardware, or something internal that you would not even spot unless you were looking specifically for it.
