Nice. I have that same model. The sliding pickup was an interesting idea, though I tend to have it where I like it and not move it. Definitely one of the Gibson black sheep models to replicate!
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

You nailed it - there is absolutely a sweet spot! Once you find it, the sliding pickup feature seems pretty redundant :D

Happy to see you still at it (how's the storage in your new place, ready to move or add on yet?)

Good luck with that.

I know what you mean. I haven't found any Matsumoku, Vintage, or el Degas guitars locally in a very long time.
So I have had to compensate by picking up a Squire Bullet Mustang, a Epiphone LP SL, and just this week, a Squire affinity Jazzmaster!

Not too expensive, fun guitars to play, and the Jazzmaster is fantastic!
Hope health and life has been treating you well!
Thanks Pierre. I wish that it were so, but I had an attack of acute pancreatitis and spent June in the Hospital. I'm still recovering very slowly at home and I'm looking at surgery to remove my gall bladder! *sigh*
I know your married so in pain is to be expected !!!
You got that right mon ami!!
