My new 985 El Degas bass

Post by Frenchy »

Got this baby 2 days ago. Was hoping that it was the 986 neckthru version but no... it was the 985 set neck. Still happy as hell since only had the bottom end bolt on version of this bass, This baby is in great condition !

I have both the set neck and neck-thru versions of this one. I actually prefer the sound of my set neck version! The neck-thru lives in my home office, though, so it gets more play (since it's there for quick pick-up-and-play when the feeling arises to do so).
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

The set neck is very nice, wish I had the neckthru to compare it ... lucky bugger you...

One day...

I did a full set up on this one yesterday and am enjoying it!

The grass is always greener, as they say! I coveted the neck-thru as well and was set up with a sweet deal from a forum member (lovely fellow from Ontario), but ended up still having the biggest spark with my set neck version. C'est la vie

Very nice. I've seen a lot of the matching guitars but I think this is the first bass version I've seen.
With that "lovely" Gumby head stock i presume this was based on a Greco design?

Yup, the prevailing theory is that it's a Greco design

Semms like a Grecco copy, seen other brand names on these also like Eagle branded guitars.
