El Degas ED-500 Handmade Concert Classical Guitar

Post by Barry »

I usually don't bother with classical guitars, I am quite happy with my Goya G10 thank you.
And let's face it, playing a classical guitar is a whole 'nuther playing technique and not for the faint of heart!

But I came across this stunningly beautiful guitar today on Kijiji. It's a work of art and craftsmanship.
According to the seller it is a Terada made El-Degas ED-500 made in Japan, 1982.

He's likely correct in saying that it's "rare".
Asking CAD$1,500 including HSC

Here are some pix for future reference:

I was looking at that listing yesterday. Stunning guitar and looks to be in pristine shape. I have seen a LOT of ED classical guitar listings, but none that look as nice as this one. I am still a bit cynical at the asking price, but it's a fine looking instrument.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Yeah the price made my eyes water too.

But it is most definitely a top end construction, and that neck ain't ever gonna warp in my lifetime!
Most unusual to see a laminate construction on a classical.
