Stratocaster- my 2nd El Degas

Post by fmj355 »

Hi All,

I am afraid I have taken the first step on a long dark path. I have owned an El Degas since I bought a Les Paul over 40 years ago. (I posted pics and description last October when I found this site) I just bought my 2nd El Degas. A Stratocaster.

I bought this one locally (Vancouver) on Craigslist. I have owned, but not really played the electric over the years, so I am very ignorant about electric guitar stuff in general. I just bought the Strat yesterday, but of course I had to do some googlish research to see what I could find.

It seems to be unusual for the fact that it only has 2 pickups, rather than the normal 3 for a Strat, but it has a 5 position selector switch. All 3 middle positions select both pickups. One volume and 2 tone controls.

The logo is inlaid rather than some type of applied logo.

I would certainly welcome any input or questions. It sounds great, the neck is comfortable for me and there is no damage or even wear that i can see so far.

I hope I can get some more information from those of you who are more familiar with Stratocasters and I also hope these pictures may be useful in the ongoing discovery of these guitars.

I hope you will find the pictures useful and enjoyable. If there are any detail pictures anyone wants with a better camera, just send a note and I will get those for you.

Don

Funny that it only has two pickups. I think I read that ad and it stated that the config was stock... not sure I believe that - I think it's been customized to have 2 pickups. Either way, it's a great looking guitar! Please let us know how it plays and sounds!
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hey man, first off, really nice guitar!
Personally, I can't get along with Strats too well 'cuz I keep whacking the centre pickup! So this is very kewl.

I'm curious to know if it is in fact an F-scale or G-scale guitar pretending to be a Strat. Hard to tell from the pictures but it does look shorter. And that 5 way switch is interesting, eh? Since these are single coils I'm guessing that the 2 and 4 positions are likely Series -Parallel configurations.
i.e.,
Position 1 = Bridge
Position 2 = Series or Parallel
Position 3 = Bridge + Neck
Position 4 = Series or Parallel
Position 5 = Neck

You won't get the classic Strat "quack" out of this configuration but it should still generate some interesting tones.
And yes, let us know what you think of her when you've time to play her some more.
