Hi,

I'm new here, but frequent the Agile guitar forum...

I got a El Degas Les Paul Custom Copy last night..
it was originally purchased in 1976 (came with the warranty card from the store)

its a nice cream white with gold hardware.. says made in japan on a sticker
on the neck plate.. which is also gold, and has a nice little dip on it,
that makes it look really kinda nice..
(i used to hate bolt on les pauls.. i was a snob.. i admit)

anyway, just wonder what ya'll could tell me about it..
its obvious a pancake body, as the line is visible after all the years..
but its quite heavy, and i like it..

it has purfling around the fingerboard binding, and
i especially like the tuners, which i wonder if they are original..
they say "clover" on the back.. NOT grover...
and they are hexigon shaped with a little clover logo.. really cool..
they are gold also..

the bridge, which is also gold.. has white saddles? look like bone or
something synthetic.. any idea if these are original..

its strange cause it appears to be high end.. but the bolt on, tells me
it must not be top of the range...

i will put pics up when i get a chance to take some..

(No doubt Charles will be drooling. He apparently has a "thing" for white LP's.)

I'd like to see a photo of the neck plate if you could take one (interested in what the little dippity-doo is on it )

The tuners may be aftermarket - I think they usually used un-stamped hardware on all El Degas. Bridge might be as well. It may be easier to tell after seeing photos.

It's not too often that you see the higher end set-neck LP copies from El Degas - the bolt ons are most prevalent (I imagine the price point was the best on these and they sold like hot-cakes back in the day). That said, the bolt-ons range from poor to wonderful; they had great ones and lemons like every other brand. I have a Tobaccoburst bolt on that ranks among the best that I've played (due in part to the stock Dimarzios FWIW, but still a very nice guitar).

and actually it appears to be the same guitar model,
with the 3 screw truss rod cover that makes it different from your white
custom, and it has perfling around the fingerboard inside the binding,
like mine...

however either the tuners on mine are not stock or the ones in that post,
cause the seem different, but could be lighting...

I will get pics of the guitar in detail tonight i hope..
the neck plate is really kinda cool, and one of the things that sold me on the guitar..

My guess is that your bridge is stock (they used tunomatic bridges with plastic saddles a lot - I find that upgrading the saddles is usually a good choice) and your tuners are after-market.

Can't wait to see the pics.

When I find the time I am going to post very detailed photo-descriptions of all of my stable of El Degas guitars & basses so people can see more detail. One day....
