Re: Bass w/ Vine Inlay & Pre-amp - Needs Restoration Help
If you're able to see past the goofy or unfamiliar logos, and see the actual quality under yer fingers, you can pick up some extraordinarily good instruments from this era. Many of the El Degas's, of course, fit into this category.
It's sad to see that a lot of these instruments fell into uncaring ...

Re: Bass w/ Vine Inlay & Pre-amp - Needs Restoration Help
The El Degas / Mateo connection is only sort-of there in my opinion - at least not directly as a brand-to-brand connection , as they are just the importer's white labels (I can hear Barry muttering "here Charles goes again" from here  ).

You're definitely more electronically-minded than I am, for sure. Hats off to you. :)

Hello niteskunq , good to have you here!
Charles will have to speak to the similarity of his bass to yours, but except for the fretboard design, it does look like the same bass body, at least from that one small picture.
A very knowledgeable collector and member of all of these forums, including ...

Where have you been looking for parts?
Between GuitarFetish (GFS), AllParts, WD Music, AZ Guitar Parts, and Guitar Parts Resource, I usually find everything I need.
Mostly I've been going direct thru Mouser and Alpha - to avoid the middle man and save cost (most of the providers above get their ...

Re: Bass w/ Vine Inlay & Pre-amp - Needs Restoration Help
Hi Charles - thanks for the reply!
I thought I saw the exact same model bass in your 'stable' pix, from a while back.
http://www.eldegas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17
If you still have it - I'd love to see the insides of the control cavity in detail.
I can't find a schematic anywhere, and I ...

Re: 70's El-Degas fix up part 1
I also replaced the tone pot with a push/pull and tapped the new coil.
nice fix-up - I'm currently upgrading an old MIJ LP with push-pulls - where did you get yours from?
The dpdt 500k pots I recently picked up are from Alpha - their diameters are a bit skinnier than the original mounting ...

Bass w/ Vine Inlay & Pre-amp - Needs Restoration Help
Howdy all,
First time poster so please allow me to introduce me-self.
I'm primarily a guitar-picker but keep a couple of basses handy for those 'heavy' days :D
And I'm mildly obsessed with what are generally known as lawsuit era MIJ guitars, although I'm pretty newb to the sport.
