my new El Degas ....

Post by mikedem »

Picked it up tonight. A very mint El Degas MT-4N. It has been in the UsedOttawa ads for quite a while and I only found it today by accident looking for the ad for the beat up LP. The guy that owned it runs music lessons out of his home and had about 6 or 7 guitars there that he has been buying and selling to his students. This one is in great shape with a brand new bone saddle installed in it. I'm not sure what they normally sound like but this thing is very crisp and has a nice bassey tone to it. The action is almost a tad too low if you play above the 12th fret but great for playing below.
He mentions someone from out west inquired about it but shipping costs were too high....Charles????

Anyways , I think it was a steal for $159.

Nope - most acoustics are safe from me. there are only a couple models that I'd make a play for.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

I appreciate you leaving some of the eastern guitars alone...

Hey mikedem...looks like a nice guitar! Some of the early Korean models were quite well made and it looks like you scored one of 'em!
For the price ya can't complain! :)

It looks like it is made half way decent. Kinda crappy tuners on it but they work. Being my 2nd ever acoustic, the first being a 12 string it could be the biggest piece of kindling ever built but I played it for a few minutes and it sounded good to me so I took it. I played it for an hour or so last night and didn't really see anything wrong with it. The previous owner said it was a little flat sounding with the original saddle in it but much crisper with the bone saddle in it. I wanted an acoustic anyways so it all made sense to grab this one and keep my LP company...they can talk about old times , my LP speaking Japanese and the acoustic talking Korean.

So true. When you play acoustic there ain't much of a safety net! You're forced to play cleanly, which is a good thing. I think you end up with a deeper appreciation of the instrument overall.
