El Degas strat. Year???

Post by Xander »

Hi guys, this is the first electric I owned. I bought it around 94'. I'm wondering if its Japanese or Korean, and what year it was made in. Any help would be great!

Hi Xander, that's a Korean model, made in the 80's.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hard to say, none that I know of... once you get into the 80's models everything from El Degas seemed to be from Korea and a lot of models seemed to get cut completely (ES-335 & 345, etc).

Everyone was buying Superstrats in that era so you mostly see that sort of thing, but there were some Jes Paul, SG, and Ric copies as well.

The 70's seems to be the "golden age" for ED guitars and basses out of Japan.
But there seems to be a lot of these Korean models about just lately. Many of the early manufactured MIK's are quite good instruments, but not on the same level as the MIJ's IMHO.
