Howdy all I am new to the Degas world...I was just given a Degas EB-3 bass ...maybe a 61-62 copy....it is brown in color...sounds and plays great with the Old flats...It is like new with one very small chip....can someone tell me anything about this bass...what are they worth ( It is not for sale and will not be)...Any info will help

Most of us are searching high and low in all sorts of nasty places to find El Degas products!
Charles and others will be along soon to comment on your bass--I'm a guitar guy and can't offer much help.
Pictures are encouraged though. Please post 'em if you got 'em. That's usually the only way we can confirm what little we know about this brand. The model numbers don't help much I'm afraid.
Meantime look around the site. You'll see some outstanding basses, especially Charles'.

Congrats on the EB-3 copy!
I have one that should be similar to it (Second row on the right: viewtopic.php?p=29#p29) - could you tell me a bit more about it, such as:
Does it have a bolt on neck?
Does it have the neat adjustable string damper in the bridge?
Do you have any photos?
As I'm sure you know, the bass is similar to the GIbson EB-3 which is a short scale bass with a gargantuan neck pickup, a humbucking bridge pickup (most likely with a nice bit of growl to it), a varitone control to give you some tonal possibilities (though I've never really had much use for them), and a 3-point bridge (with a string dampening system on mine).
The year of manufacture is probably more in the 1970s, which was the real "heyday" for these sorts of instruments (spurred on by the general malaise in the marketplace by the Norlin era of Gibson & the CBS era of Fender; low cost of Japanese manufacturing; Japanese manufacturer's want to establish themselves in the guitar marketplace; increase in market due to the large demand for inexpensive guitars as kids wanted to emulate their classic rock heroes; prevalence of North American companies looking to import their own line of inexpensive copies and get a piece of the pie; etc).
The value of these instruments is all over the place. Sometimes you find copies of guitars not otherwise readily available which can bring their price up a tad, but as a general blanket statement El Degas instruments tend to go for anywhere between $100-600 (give or take) depending on the model, condition, availability of an alternative model in the current marketplace, etc.

I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.
