El Torres

Does any one know if El Torres is in any way linked to El Degas?

Here are some pics:

The previous owner bought it from a music school in the 70's in Montreal... Made in Japan, single pickup P-bass.....

I doubt there is any link to "El Degas" (the B&J brand) specifically; but many/most of the importers were buying from the handful of "big" Japanese manufacturers at that time, so who knows, it might have come from the same factory as some of the models El Degas was importing. I haven't seen that particular configuration in any El Degas bass ('51 Prec pickup paired with modern Prec stylings).

The same situation occurs today - some instrument manufacturers (whether they be in Japan, Korea, etc) supply all sorts of instruments with all sorts of brand names on them, many without the consumer having any clue that they come from the same factory. This may or may not be the case here, hard to say.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

Hey Pierre, I'm just catching up to your post now, sorry about that.
Never heard of El Torres but that doesn't mean too much.
She looks well made but doesn't quite feel "El Degas-y" to me. Maybe Cort origin???
I just discovered a Dove-like acoustic from the 70's called Emperador which looks very much like the El Degas version of the Dove, except it has Bluebirds on the pickguard! Apparently it is Japanese made too and associated with Cort. Maybe that's the case here?

Hey! When are you gonna drag out yer El Degas's so we can drool?? :P
