My Wonderful El Degas Classical Guitar

El Degas Guitar.jpg
About six years ago I bought my El Degas classical guitar at an antique mall for $65.00 with case. It sat in the closet until this year because it wouldn't play at the first 3 frets. I took it to my local music store recently and they said the neck had a twist in it so they heat clamped it for 2 weeks and straightened it. They also discovered that the main brace under the top was loose so they re-glued it. Now it is my favorite guitar. I have been playing professionally for 45 years and have had many guitars along the way. This is by far the best. It fingers beautifully and has the richest fullest bass I have ever heard in a classical guitar. It is gorgeous to look at and a joy to play. I once had a Martin D-35 dreadnought and this even beats that for depth and tone. It is model #C120 Serie #2734. In the late sixties I had a Marco Polo Classical guitar that was equally as good but got traded in along the way which I always regretted. Now I have a guitar that looks just like it and brings back memories. The Japanese really made some wonderful instruments. i would love to know when this one was made.

Glad to hear the guitar has such a rich sound - I never hear much about the Classical models.

If you could post photos of the guitar's headstock and sound hole label, it might help me to determine which era it is from. (for tips, see http://www.eldegas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=49)

Right now, sight unseen, it does sound like you might have one of the earlier MIJ models which would put it anywhere from the very late 60's to the mid-to-late 70's. I'll hopefully be able to give a more educated guess once I see photos; on whether it is indeed a MIJ (Made in Japan) model.
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)
