I purchased an EL Degas SG electric. Its walnut brown with white binding
I cannot find a serial number but it seems old. It came with a plush yellow lined hard shell case. The neck is bolt on with four screws.
Except for some nicks on the body it appears little used with no fret board wear.
I immediately put new strings on it.
It sounds great the pickups are not too hot I mean it will sound almost as clean as my single coil Stratocaster.
I would love to know more about it and where the serial number may be?
It appears to be a described a Model 861

Re: EL Degas SG Walnut
That model is a MIJ (Made in Japan) SG copy from the 1970's.
There is likely no serial number on the guitar (though perhaps there might be something in the neck pocket?) but there is no surviving information pertaining to serial numbers to give any context to the guitar even if there was anything marked on the guitar so it's a moot point.
Hope you enjoy it, I really liked my bolt-on SGs a few years back but I ended up selling them.

I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

Re: EL Degas SG Walnut
Thank You
I really like the guitar it sounds good and the action is perfect for me.
I think a lot of name brand guitars are overpriced and overrated. If you get a good one its fine but so many defects get by current mass production quality control its not practical to me to spend ten times for a brand name and status guitar. That said I own an old Telecaster and Stratocaster and Les Paul all are great guitars for but I got them either on sale or used.
I used to go to the local guitar shops and play all the expensive martin, Gibson, Taylor guitars and then I found a used Takamine. I am sold on Takamine guitars to me it sounds better than the expensive Martin and others.
To me a good guitar is a good guitar no matter the label or price.
Maybe I am becoming older (wiser) and less impressionable? ; )

True enough. That's why we like our el Degas's so muchwildjim wrote:...I think a lot of name brand guitars are overpriced and overrated...To me a good guitar is a good guitar no matter the label or price...

The mid 70's to late 80's was a "golden era" for many Japanese guitar makers, and an awful lot of superbly made instruments were made during that time under a variety of badging. Thde trick is learning what to look for eh?
