El Degas 995WR

Post by the52blues »

Another guitar I picked up that was an el Degas was their copy of one of the Gibson L4 arch top Jazz guitar. I really thought the ED was as good as the L4 and looked great. Check it out.

The WR stood for Wine Red. Nice white bindings. I had the master volume switch on the cut-away added later. It's not stock. So one day when I was hard up for cash I had a guy want to buy this guitar. I really didn't want to sell it so I made him a deal that if he bought it and later wanted to get rid of it that I would get first chance. A year later I was missing this beauty and had some money so I called him up and told him I wanted to buy it back. He told me he sold it 6 months ago. Man was I mad!

Oh man, I'd love to get my hands on one of those. I missed one from Halifax about a year ago - the guy sold it for a ridiculous price.

Lordy, that's a beauty!
You'd never pry it out of my clenched fingers!

Your belt buckle is scaring me so close to that gorgeous guitar :|

Yeah...the belt buckle was actually just for the picture. I never wore it when I gigged.

A strange update on my 995WR. I just got a FaceBook message from a guy saying he's the guy that bought it from me and still has it...what? It's still around? He says he lives in Guelph and says the next time he comes out to Brampton he'll bring it with him. I hope to get more pics with it when he does. I'm so happy. It was probably the best looking and sounding guitar I ever had. At this point (poor as I am) I don't know if I'll be able to re-own it or not. I have a similar archtop (Epiphone Joe Pass) that I replaced it with and really enjoy it too. What to do, what to do.

Sorry for not being around for a while Charles....so many things have happened over the last little while. BTW I noticed the pic of my guitar doesn't show in my post any more. Have there been changes to the format?

Quite a while back I had to turn off attachments on the forum because it was going to cost me an arm and a leg to host the site since very large photos were being uploaded to the server. I was not aware it would affect photos that were already saved as attachments - I will have to look into that but I am not sure if I will be able to reinstate the photo or not. (edit: I can find the photo on my server but I cannot have the forum system show it on the thread unless I turn attachments back on, which unfortunately I am not able to do :( I can PM you the photo if you need a copy of it.)

I recommend using Photobucket or imgur for photo hosting and posting IMG links here on the forum (see http://www.eldegas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45) - it's a big deal for me to be able to offload the hosting requirements for so many photos to a third-party.

I sent the photo off to Fred, and either he or I will likely put it on a photo hosting site in order to get it back on to this thread - check back

edit: the photo is now on my photobucket account and back in all its glory.
