Finally got the right tuners today and installed them. I also noticed my nut was fubar'd so I am replacing that as well. Someone here mentioned a while back how light my fret board was and I never really noticed until now- so while everything was apart I am giving it a good lemon oil soaking. Just waiting for the nut to set before I restring her and be finished this little obsession...er project.
Before
After
Nut - action was a "tad low" on G,B and E
soak that oil..
Wowser! She looks gorgeous!
(Did you lightly "buff" the fretboard with some #0000 steel wool first? It helps to remove most of the crud before oiling, and polishes the frets too.)
Great job!
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.
El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42 (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)

I used one of those green plastic scrubbing pad things. I didn't have any steel wool and I have used them before and it doesn't seem to scratch anything. Of course , today at work I gash open my right index finger just as I am looking forward to setting this up tonight and play it
All done - strung it and set it up tonight. I can't believe how much the intonation changed by moving the action a few thousands of an inch with the new nut. I was able to lower the action a tad with the extra clearance at the 1st fret.
That was fun , whats next.....
You should come to my house and set up all of mine... that'll keep you busy
