Deep Purple el Dégas Superstrat and PX-10 Amp

Post by Leroy »

I found this purple el Dégas superstrat at a Value Village in Ottawa about 10 years ago. The accompanying el Dégas PX-10 practice amp came from an antique shop in Perth a few years later. The guitar has a 21-fret rosewood fret board, medium jumbo frets (0.106 X 0.036), bolt-on maple neck with a black-face, canted (spliced), pointy headstock, no-name enclosed tuners, body of unknown material and construction, vibrato bridge, and a three-layer (black, white, black) pick guard. The pickups are a humbucker at the bridge and two single-coils at the neck and middle. The controls consist of the standard five-position switch, a master volume pot and separate tone pots for neck and middle pickups, and a toggle switch to split the humbucker into a single coil. The pickups are remarkably bright -- brighter than any other strat pickups I've got; the bridge pickup in single-coil mode sounds like a telecaster. So I wired the bridge pickup to the centre position of the three-way switch so that I can mix the bridge and neck for that telecaster blend. Despite what one might think from the position of the bridge saddles, the intonation is accurately set. The action is low and the neck plays very smoothly. Judging by its condition, I think the guitar has spent most of its life in a closet. From other postings on this site, I gather that this guitar was made in Korea in the 80s, although there are no other markings on it besides the el Dégas name on the headstock. The PX-10 is a passable solid-state practice amp, with an overdrive channel and a three-band equalizer; I use it only for headphones when I can't use the '57 Champ or Super Champ. Any other information about this guitar or amp would be very welcome.
Many thanks to Charles for setting up and administering this site; I look forward to the complete el Dégas history and a comprehensive catalogue of models.

I really dig the purple!

You are correct on the era and country of manufacture - 80's MIK.

Thanks for sharing!
I started ElDegas.com many years ago to help celebrate and inform about El Degas instruments. It all started with a used Ric 4000 bass copy I bought in circa 2000.

El Degas stable as of 03/2022: 42  (13 bass, 26 electric, 3 acoustic)
