Re: El Dégas Solid Body Electric Info Needed

That's a copy of a Rickenbacker 325. I am unsure whether that's a Japanese made guitar or a later Korean made one (there may be a small decal on the back of the guitar body or headstock that says where it was made). It is generally believed that the Japanese models were manufactured in the 70's, and...

Re: ElDegas MT7

I was really glad to see some posts pop up from you today Barry! Hope you're well.

Good tip on the image viewing. You can also do a similar thing on Chrome: open the image viewer in Kijiji, right click the image, and select "Open image in new tab".

Re: ElDegas MT7

Ah, I see the listing now. That's a Korean model (if you squint you can see it on the sound hole label). So, this will have none of the rosewood you normally see on the sides & back of the MIJ models (as you've noted Barry it appears to be all mahogany), and as you can see it has dots vs. the more e...

Re: ElDegas MT7

Just had a gander at Kijiji and if you are referring to the MT7 in Halifax I'm thinking it may be mainly mahogany - you could be right about the top being a stained spruce, potentially? I have to admit it's very hard to tell these things with small photos on Kijiji.

Re: ElDegas MT7

I always say that a guitar in-hand will tell you a lot more about itself than I ever can! These things are now usually somewhere in the 40-50 age range so it's best to see how they feel, play, and sound in-person whenever possible (which is really more important that the woods used, in the...

Re: ElDegas MT7

Slightly tricky question - I've seen the MT- models (which are copies of Martin acoustics, by the way) in a variety of "trim levels" from quite inexpensive and basic models all the way up to very deluxe models with nice abalone inlays. I'd want to see photos to make any guesses as the woods used and...

Re: El Degas 980 by Chushin Gakki

There definitely seemed like there was a love affair with Dimarzios on many/most ED models of the era. Blame Ace Frehley!

Re: El Degas 980 by Chushin Gakki

Cool write-up! This is literally the first time I can remember a marking on an ED that may actually have a way to ID the date of manufacture! Luckily, my 980 guitar has its pickups out so I did find the inspection stamp. It's VERY hard to read but I think it's 54 10 09. I'll have to check out my two...

Re: New El Degas Show and Tell

Thanks for sharing! Great collection. I love show & tell time :D

# 2 is believed to be a copy of a Greco design, I think.

Re: El Degas Thinline Tele .... info please?

I bet you'd like the S/H version, Barry. You still get a spanking Tele bridge single coil sound with a warm full neck HB.

Re: El Degas Thinline Tele .... info please?

I love Tele's and really like the look of the thinlines... I have two different models of this body style (both the S/H and the H/H configurations). Congrats on the guitar :D Not too sure on the era on these but it's generally believed to be the 1970s. The pickups are probably some generic Japanese ...

Re: MT4N - pricing?

B&J is so far removed from the old NYC days that I'm not surprised to hear that.

Just picked up the same bass with both covers and thumb rest. Mine however says El Degas Electric Bass on the head stock.
Well, what are you waiting for - make a new forum thread and show it off!

B&J Music is now part of another company (no longer with Kaman) but the name escapes me at the moment.

Re: MT4N - pricing?

It is believed: El Degas instruments were made in Japan throughout the 1970s. The Korean models are believed to have started around the 1980s, possibly coinciding with B&J Music being sold to Kaman Music. Pricing of these instruments is pretty tough to pin down: These instruments are 30-50 years old...
