Re: Possible Serial Number Interpretation

We've never found a reliable or verifiable way to link serial numbering to anything definitive.

Honestly I think the serial numbering being used in the first place is that they wanted to make the guitars "look the part", and then decided it was not worth the extra hassle.

Re: Gibson Marauder copy

All I can say is... I like mine

The neck pickup is a bit unique in that I can do this one heavy fast riff I like to play and it does not sludge-up the way many of my other guitars' neck pickups would. Stays thick yet articulate. That alone secures my Marauder copy in my guitar collection!

Gibson Marauder copy

Not my listing.

Someone recently asked me via email about wanting a Marauder copy, so I hope you get this one!

Re: What can you tell me about this guitar?

Looks like Barry covered pretty much everything.

If you have a good luthier look everything over and set up the guitar you should be best set up for success in starting your journey.

This is a later made in Korea El Degas model. MT- prefix models are generally meant to be replicas of Martin ...

PDF of the standard ED logo for a waterslide decal: https://www.eldegas.com/wp-content/uploads/ElDegas_Logo-Silkscreen.pdf

There is another version of the ED logo for some models that is a strange outlined logo variant, which I have not redrawn in all these years. I don't have a good sample to work ...

Re: Awesome catalog scan submitted by a forum user

Photo bucket went to hell years ago and basically removed its ability to be used to freely host images for this kind of use case.

I'll have to find a new way to share the catalogs, but it won't be for a while as I am away for xmas

Re: El Degas GB-23

It can be tough to give advice on value of these guitars, since after 50 years the condition can vary pretty widely, and it all depends on what your local market will bear for pricing. Something to keep in mind is the El Degas name is not hugely known or in demand like some other Japanese ...

Re: Trying to find a year

Very little concrete information exists of the brand and the serial numbering system was abandoned completely, so giving specific manufacturing dates is basically impossible.

It is believed the MIK (Made in Korea) are from the 80s and later.

MT- models are copies of Martin acoustics.

Re: RE: El Degas MT-8

I got this MT-8 from my wife's grandmother and it had missing keys etc. I fixed it and I started playing it. it sounds awesome. Serial Number 036087? what year was this guitar made?

The serial number unfortunately won't help since no data on that system survives. What I would recommend is to ...

Re: Black El Degas Korean Strat circa early late 80's early 90's.

That would be the model number.

I believe it's most common in later Korean models to sometimes find a label still attached to the back of the headstock with a model number. I seem to remember seeing it on photos of instruments with different body shapes (so, not just on Strat-shaped instruments ...

Re: El Degas ED-500 Handmade Concert Classical Guitar

I was looking at that listing yesterday. Stunning guitar and looks to be in pristine shape. I have seen a LOT of ED classical guitar listings, but none that look as nice as this one. I am still a bit cynical at the asking price, but it's a fine looking instrument.
